DescriptionThose who will not be named X The WitcheryCat Bayun is one of the most mysterious infrequently found characters in fairytales, and very little is known about him. We can find mention of him in A.S. Pushkin tales like “Go there without knowing where, bring something without knowing what” and in some other fairy tales, the cat Bayun is also mentioned to be the faithful assistant of Baba Yaga whom he reported the news too and also helped with her housework. The idea that cats are the guardians of the home would seem to run against this dark view of cats, but it is obviously with regard to Veles and the underworld that the crossing of a new home’s threshold (that magical boundary between ‘worlds’) must first be done by none other than a cat to ensure the safety of all who dwell in it. Old Russian superstition dictates that a new home’s bed, that one place in a house where people can be most vulnerable and in the most need of supernatural guardianship while they sleep, is best put where the threshold-crossing cat first laid down. Bayun was thought to live in the dark forest woods away from people and did not like guests too much. With steel claws and fangs he would sit on an iron or oak pole. If anyone approached from afar, Bayun start conversations with the traveller from over a mile away, so it was impossible to catch him by surprise. He would began to purr and speak to him and having lulled the vigilance of a person, the cat would rush at him, kill and eat him. If a person was able to catch Bayun and subdue him, he would heal all ills, as the voice and tales of Cat Bayun also had healing properties. There is a Russian saying that goes: “Ночью все кошки серы –all cats are grey in the night”—being equal parts light and dark, Veles and Perun, good luck and bad. This pewter cat skull was hand cast and engraved by secret witch artists.100% handcrafted Pewter cat skull nestled inside a vintage slavic wood bowl & Veles anointing ritual oil.Only 2 when they are gone they are gone.
