Area Motorsport MQB Brake Duct Kit This brake duct kit is designed for various vehicles built on the MQB Platform, including the Golf MK7, Golf MK8, Cupra 5F, and all Audi and Skoda models. Addressing Common Brake Temperature Issues Area Motorsport developed this Brake Duct Kit to address the prevalent issue of high brake temperatures on the MQB platform. While other kits exist, this solution aims to provide a high-quality, effective method for significantly improving brake cooling. Design and Construction The kit is engineered to accommodate the largest possible hose within the available space, utilizing 63mm 2-ply silicone ducting. The lightweight aluminium backing plates are designed to fully enclose the back of the brake disc, ensuring all airflow is directed through the disc. These backing plates also taper to provide protection for the ball joint from brake heat. The duct itself is constructed from carbon filament (PEtgCF) and features internal vanes. These vanes are crucial for channelling air directly into the duct, preventing turbulence around the opening for the hose and promoting smooth, clean airflow. This design allows over 35 cubic meters of air to pass through the duct in one minute when traveling at an average speed of 80 MPH. Optimized Hose Routing A significant challenge with brake duct kits is the routing of the hose and preventing it from rubbing against body parts. Area Motorsport has addressed this by including a bracket that mounts to the HEX on the outer track rod end. This bracket guides the ducting hose, preventing it from tapering towards the CV boot or driveshaft, especially when the wheels are on full lock. Rigorous Testing The kit underwent thorough testing, beginning with two weeks of road testing on Area Motorsport’s own MK8 Clubsport. Following this, a customer successfully used the kit on their MK8 Clubsport Race Car during an entire race weekend. No issues were reported during either testing phase. Furthermore, a substantial reduction of over 80 degrees Celsius in brake caliper temperature was observed in a racing environment when one duct was intentionally blocked and the other left open, demonstrating the kit’s effectiveness.
