DescriptionAccording to Slavic folklore all homes have a Domovik or Domovoi and he is believed to be the soul of one (or all) of the deceased members of the family, making him a part of ancestor worship traditions. Traditionally living at the threshold under the entrance, in the attic, or mainly in the hearth or behind the stove, everyone took care to not disturb the smouldering remains of a fire to keep their ancestors from falling through the grate. If the spirit is satisfied & on good terms with the household, it acts as a guardian, helping with chores, feeding the animals & protecting the residence and those that dwell in the house.They are believed to be connected to the house building itself, so sacrifices and rituals are also practised when a family moved to a newly built house, in order to invite the god to inhabit it. In this case, a hen and the first slice of bread cut for of the first dinner in the new house are offered to the god and buried in the courtyard, reciting the formula:Wearing your best clothing go outside & say aloud “Dedushka Dobrokhot, please come into my house and tend the flocks.” When moving, make an offering & say “Domovoy! Domovoy! Don’t stay here but come with our family!”Similar rituals are practised to invite a Domovoy to transfer from a house to another, and to welcome him.Can be used as a dressing perfume oil on your home, window ledges, door jams or you can anoint candles, petition papers, spell papers, charms, fetishes or anything else you wish.
