DescriptionThe custom of burning the Yule Log goes back to even before medieval times. Believed to be a Nordic tradition that occurred during Winter Solstice festivals in Scandinavia and other parts of northern Europe such as Germany. The burning of the Yule Log dates back to early solstice celebrations and the tradition of bonfires. The now Christmas practice calls for burning a portion of the log each evening until Twelfth Night (January 6). The log is subsequently placed beneath the bed for luck. It is also said to offer protection from the threats of lighting and with some irony, fire. Many have beliefs based on the Yule log as it burns. It’s said that counting the sparks and such one can discern their fortunes for the new year and beyond. The log was originally an entire tree that was carefully chosen and brought into the home with great ceremony. The largest end of the log would be placed into the fire hearth while the rest of the tree stuck out into the room! The log would be lit from the remains of the previous year’s log which had been carefully stored away under the bed and slowly fed into the fire through the Twelve Days of Christmas. It was considered important that the re-lighting process was carried out by someone with clean hands.Burn incense as offerings, to carry your wishes, desires, and when casting your spellwork.Charcoal is needed to burn this incense4 dram bottle
