Kaplan.The 1JJ Swiss Tarot deck is a variation of the classic Marseilles Tarot deck, with French titles and reprints of original woodcut images depicting black, white and primary coloured figures in 19th Century costumes. The names on each card are in French. It has a few variations from the Marseille deck with the most obvious difference between the Marseille and the 1JJ Swiss Tarot is that Juno with her peacock, and Jupiter with his eagle, replace the High Priestess and the Pope. This continues a tradition that began with the Tarot of Besançon. The “JJ” in the name refers to Jupiter and Juno.The deck was intended to be distributed in regions with both Catholic and Protestant enthusiasts, who didn’t want pagan gods for various reasons and, of course, wanted to avoid confrontations with the Catholic Church. Lady Fortune is restored to her role as the one who turns the Wheel of Fortune, and the Death card is one of the finest, featuring the typical image of death harvesting, but with a really fine and precise drawing, unlike the rough skeleton in the original Marseille Tarot.Box shows signs of wear (creasing, tears etc. All contents are in excellent vintage condition.– 78 1JJ tarot cards, made in Switzerland – 96 page instruction book – 2 illustrated guide sheets for 10 card spread – BoxOut of Print ~ 1970’s Vintage
