DescriptionThese Petrykivka Stone Amulets are hand painted and one of a kind. The flowers surrounding this stone are known as Petrykivka painting. This decorative Ukrainian art form has very distinctive flower patterns and brush techniques. The painting style originated in the 18th century as a way for villagers to decorate the walls of their homes. Scenes from nature, flowers, birds, berries, and trees were all painted freehand with brushes or even fingers. These designs were not just for beauty; they were believed to bring happiness, peace, and protection into the home.Over time the tradition evolved from wall painting to decorating everyday objects, like wooden plates, boxes, ceramics, trays, and even Easter eggs (pysanky). The art style was passed down from mother to daughter. Each generation added its own touch, keeping the tradition alive while embracing individual expression.This magical stone amulet has been hand painted by my wonderful Ukrainian friend who moved to Canada with her daughter just after the war started in Ukraine. She even makes her own brushes out of cat hair!When it’s gone it is gone.
